cath - housemate/work colleague/friend

portraits of Cath..i wouldn't say she was a willing subject but she's quite happy with some of these shots..everyone seemed to be bothered by eyebrows/spots/t-shirts/hair... when i asked for photos this week..
Cath doesn't mind you knowing she turned 50 this year...

run

i went down to Salford Quays looking for more landscapes

and shadows

there was a children's run taking place..they were really young and all out of breath

again i took these with a black and white filter setting and chose my position to create a frame and a few lines..
the shot with the two girls was taken in dark black & white..i over exposed the raw copy and put it into a neutral black and white using silverfx so we can see more detail.

look at the shoes on Miss who was trying to catch the stragglers....

this is my fave of the day

and this is it before any fiddling...

street

this was a bit of a drive by in the city centre opposite the Cornerhouse.. i liked the light and that the people were just in the shadow.. i processed in in Natural black and white preset on silverfx..

another 'drive-by' this time outside Aldi..again i liked the light and shadows and his posture.. i post processed it into mono..i kind of wish his shadow was longer..

loadsalandscape

sunday out and about with my partner in crime...Lotti

took loads of photos.....................

i used the black point to take away the leaves in the bottom half of this shot
i put a little more colour in this one below just the tiniest bit of blue the sun made the trees a yellow/green

got a bit obsessed by paths......

i think these two were my favourites of the day

then the sun went a bit mad and did this.....

then i took madam home.......

saturday

what a nice day...so i spent the day on a photography workshop with Salford University as part of the manchester weekender with pro photographer len grant. The idea was to produce an exhibition in a day entitled Quay People. Participants had to approach people around Salford Quays, take their photos then use them in a exhibition that afternoon.

more can be seen here

i managed to take a couple of landscape shots, in full sun with a black and white preset on my camera.

this one was taken as i arrived at the Quays...i should have framed it better to start with but i liked the light..it was well sunny

and i just liked this as it's had no messing....

aperture priority

depth of field
so in these photos i wanted to demonstrate that with a low 'F' stop the objects nearest would be in focus and the background wouldn't..with a higher number the background becomes clearer. the dolls were placed at different distances..

this first one is shot on f4

this second one has an 'f'stop of 22..the background is also clear..

i don't own a tripod so used the self timer.. (anyone recommend a good/cheap tripod?)

the same with these two using the same numbers:

processing etc
i use aperture programme on my Mac and found the 'black point' button...

they are cropped slightly differently and i think i did auto enhance...on one of them...i like the first one...

Landscapes

i read somewhere that the best landscape images are taken either at sunrise or sunset..
so me and the dog were out in Longford Park at well early 'oh'clock...this is the moon..a harvest moon? a taurus moon? whatever..it's the moon... black point and some other fiddling with made it look like this...

Longford Park - again (expect more from this venue)
black point and fancy cropping...Rothko?

here's some i made earlier :

composition
i knew about the rule of thirds and lines but i didn't know about triangles so i had a look back and realised i'd done triangles before...
i use my camera everyday either my Olympus E620 or my iphone and publish it on an online photo journal Blipfoto..
