sunshiny day

outside with Linzi

so here are two examples using the travel pack and different lamp shades..
the first is softer and golden and i really like the twinkle in her eye..

although just as pretty
the second shot has more directional light and so highlights her face more..
i personally prefer the first image. maybe if i messed with the exposure levels i could brighten it a little..

inside with flowers

although i love these images
with this first one the graduation between dark to light in the back ground is too obvious for me
i think we repaired it by covering the lamp which was set underneath..

are these slightly underexposed?
again we fiddled with the light underneath because some how the light ate the tulip.

i quite like the blur of the leaves with this shot but it has leaked onto the the top of the petals
i was using f20 if i could have made just the leaves blurry and the petals crisp oh and made the background less grey..........

this is my absolute favourite shot of the night...
a happy accident caused because the flash didn't sinc....
i like the graduated light and the strong yellow...

i've not cropped it or fiddled with it in any way..and i really like it

studio lighting 2

again i started off totally underexposed

i improved the lighting in the centre of the image and used the 'pin hole' preset in silver efex

studio lighting

as you can see i was totally underexposed..

it took a lot of fiddling in aperture and colour efex4 to create an image worth looking at.

although i'm not sure i like the composition

project 1a

Alli, Holly and I did another photoshoot on wednesday. Alli wanted some high fashion images for her portfolio, the make up and hair was really edgy and Holly looked stunning..
i think some of these are the final images for the assignment. i'm still fiddling with the processing.
i've got a friend who is a psychology lecturer and we just had a big discussion about these shots. he say they are not portraits because with a portrait you are searching for the essence of the person and these images are simply demonstrating the skills of the make-up artist and the beauty of the model.

allison isn't happy with this next shot because to her it isn't the finished product - the lips aren't painted.
i'm not happy with it because of the three shiny triangles - one between her eyes and the other two at the side of her nose.

this next shot is the finished product but look at the hair coming down the side of her cheek! i know by this time this is something i should be able to remove with GIMP...can i work it out? can i eck..

project 1a

so last night was our photo session with Holly..Allison did the make up and i took the shots..
I'll write more about it over the weekend as part of my research..
when i got in last night i processed some shots and sent them straight to Alli to ask what she liked and didn't like and was she pleased with how it went etc...

this morning she had put them straight on facebook.

have i got the right to feel annoyed that she did this without asking me?
was i being too precious about the photos?
she said she was proud of her work and wanted to show off..i said "so am I, they are my photos"
did i automatically loose all right to how the photos are used by sending them to her?
she did take the photos off facebook but i was bothered by it..

what do you think?
i am really happy with the photos but it has made me really cautious about sending her any more..
